Jeff Chaney appointed Assistant Athletic Director by Transylvania Athletics

Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania Athletics Department has named Jeff Chaney Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Sport Administration, Vice President for Enrollment and Student Life Dr. Holly Sheilley announced Monday.

"We are excited to welcome Jeff Chaney as our new Assistant Athletic Director," said Sheilley. "His experience as a coach and administrator will prove invaluable to us. His integrity and work ethic made him a perfect fit for Transylvania."

As Assistant Athletic Director, Chaney will have primary oversight of NCAA compliance, along with direction of special events, championships, and fundraising initiatives for the athletics department.

Chaney's multidivisional experience in collegiate athletics provides the Georgetown (Ky.) College graduate with wide-ranging perspective as the newest administrator within the Transylvania Athletics Department.

"I'm excited about working with a multitude of sports in this capacity as an Assistant Athletic Director," commented Chaney. "My goal is to help all our teams and their student-athletes accomplish their goals, be competitive, and win championships, and to do all those things the right way."

As a former college soccer coach, Chaney has obtained the distinction at coaching at all three levels in the NCAA. He most recently served as an assistant men's soccer coach at Hanover College, a Division III college which competes in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Prior to his stint with the Panthers, Chaney was the assistant men's soccer coach at Northern Kentucky University, a Division II school which was making the transition to Division I while he was on staff with the Norse from 2012 through 2016. Chaney's additional duties as a Recruiting Coordinator entailed a diverse mandate that ranged from recruiting, to fulfilling compliance requirements for student-athletes, to ensuring their academic progress.

Chaney has deep roots in the Lexington area, having served as an assistant men's soccer coach at the University of Kentucky from 1994 until 2011. Chaney's responsibilities at the University of Kentucky included training and development of over 75 Southeastern Conference All-Conference selections and five All-Americans, 11 years as an Academic Coordinator, six years as a Compliance Liaison, and a decade and a half worth of overseeing community relations between the men's soccer program and the Bluegrass region.

"After nearly 30 years of being on the coaching side, I think I'll be able to relate to our coaches and staff because I have sat in that chair, and I understand the emotions, feelings, and what they go through on a daily basis," added Chaney. "Division III is the place where as a student-athlete, you can really go do it all in terms of experiences, and that's what makes it an attractive level to be at."

The Transylvania Athletics Department will welcome Chaney and his versatility that has touched on budget oversight, establishing ongoing community relationships, and building thriving athletic programs.

Chaney begins his duties at Transylvania University Monday, July 10.
