SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Wittenberg scored the deciding goal with just a half minute left in the first overtime period Wednesday and went on to a 3-2 win over Transylvania in non-conference women's soccer action.
Transy is 7-2-1 on the season while the Tigers are 8-2-1. Wittenberg is unbeaten in its last six matches. Transy came into the game ranked fourth in the NSCAA's Great Lakes Region poll while Wittenberg is No. 6.
The Pioneers led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Kari Dailey (Nicholasville, Ky.) in the 11th minute. Wittenberg scored for the first time in the 54th minute, but Transy regained the lead at 2-1 just five minutes later when Amy Ghilbaudy tallied her fourth goal of the year on an assist by Awbrey Wahle (Lexington, Ky.).
Wittenberg forced overtime by scoring in the 65th minute.
The Tigers had a 15-11 edge in shots, including a 9-8 edge in shots on goal. Transy keeper Cori Hickman (Newark, Ohio) had six saves.
The winning goal was made by Erin McLeish, who scored on a direct kick from 30 yards out.
The Pioneers return to Heartland Conference action on Saturday when they travel to Bluffton.
