LEXINGTON, Ky. - Transylvania's
Elizabeth Schmitt scored from 18 yards out as time was running out in overtime Wednesday, giving the Pioneers a 2-1 win over Wittenberg in non-conference women's soccer action at Hall Field.
The 14th-ranked Pioneers are 8-1 overall with their eighth win in a row while Wittenberg drops to 4-5-1.
Neither team could score in the first half or through the first 24 minutes of the second period. The Tigers got on the board first, getting a score from Sheryl Chambers from the top of the box at 66:07.
That margin held until Transy's
Amy Ghibaudy (Lexington, Ky., Lex. Catholic) found the upper right corner from the left side at 80:46, tying the contest.
It stayed that way until
Schmitt (Ft. Mitchell, Ky., Notre Dame Acad.)'s goal with just 20 seconds left in overtime. She scored on a deflection.
Transy outshot the visitors 12-12 and had a 9-5 deficit in corner attempts.
Kara Hansel (Florence, Ky., Notre Dame Acad.) had four saves in goal for Transy.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, hosting Heartland Conference rival Bluffton at 5:30 p.m.
