ANDERSON, Ind. â€" Transylvania women's soccer netted the win in their first conference matchup of the season, dominating the Anderson Ravens in a 4-0 shutout.
"We played well today," said Head Coach
Michael Fulton. "We controlled much of the game and got the result we wanted out of our first conference game."
Transylvania made the first strike just one minute into the match as
Michelle Schroeck created a 1-0 lead for the Pioneers off a swift pass from
Amy Ghibaudy. The Pioneers created five shot attempts during the next 35 minutes, taking over Anderson's red zone. In the 36
th-minute, Ghibaudy netted her own goal, putting Transylvania up, 2-0.
Senior defender
Anne Marie Dumaine made a standout performance, notching her only two shots as goals in the 43
rd and 62
nd minute of game play. Her first goal, a header, came off an assist by
Cora Kerber and Schroeck just moments before the half.
The Ravens improved their defense early in the second half, preventing much Pioneer penetration toward the goal. However, Dumaine made her move at the 62-minute mark, netting her second, and the team's final, goal of the night.
The Pioneer defense prevented the Ravens from taking a single shot on Transylvania's goal. Pioneer goalkeeper
Jerrica Scovel and
Erin Snyder had easy nights in the cage thanks to the defense, recording zero saves.
Transylvania's offense also made their impact, dominated the shots, taking 11 on goal to Anderson's zero. Dumaine and Ghibaudy led the team in shots with two apiece, followed byÂ
Alyssa Kruse,
Paige Napier,
Nicole Dal Pozzo, Schroeck,
Charlotte Pruet,
Dani Kane and
Abby Prater, each with one.
Two Pioneers saw a return to the field after injuries, including
Dani Kane and
Abby Prater. "It was good to see them play well," said Coach Fulton. "Dani and Abby both looked healthy again."
Looking ahead to the rest of the Heartland Conference, Coach Fulton feels confident in his team.
"I think our mindset is in the right place," he said. "We are playing consistent, game in and game out. Our next opponent is Hanover and they have a good team. This will be a tougher game and we will have to be disciplined in our preparation."
Transylvania meets conference foe Hanover on Wednesday, October 9 at home at 7 p.m.
