Box Score LEXINGTON, Ky.—A Centre College goal in the fifth minute was the first of three first half goals, as the Colonels handed the Transylvania University women's soccer team a 3-0 loss Wednesday at Pat Deacon Stadium.
The Pioneer offense had success, threatening throughout the contest, but was unable to find the net against, Olivia Alford, the Southern Athletic Association's leader in goals against average (0.40).
Centre's Anne Mitchell found Alex Combs for the first goal of the contest just over four minutes into play. Mitchell connected with Katie Stevenson minutes later for her second assist of the match, as the Colonels held an early 2-0 lead.
The Transylvania offense pierced Centre's defense, allowing Charlotte Pruet to send a ball toward Alford that flew just right of the net. Minutes later, as the Transylvania offense continued to pressure the goal, Lindsey Sizemore sent a ball off her right foot but was unable to get the Pioneers on the board.
Centre responded taking the ball down the field and adding its final score in the 30th minute with a goal from Katie Downing for the 3-0 advantage.
The Transylvania defense stiffened in the second half limiting the Colonels to five shots as the Pioneers generated four shots of their own in the half. Abby Prater took the first of three second half corners for the Pioneers, which led to a header from Pruet that sailed over the cross bar.
The Pioneers continued the aggressive offensive attack, as Sizemore, Alyssa Kruse and Morgan Janes all tallied shots in the second half but were unable to convert. Transylvania logged seven shots in the contest compared to 13 from Centre. Pruet and Janes led the Pioneer offense with two shots apiece.
Transylvania (2-8) opens Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday against Manchester University (3-6) at Pat Deacon Stadium. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
