Hanover tops Pioneers 5-0

Box Score

HANOVER, Ind.— Three first half goals helped propel Hanover College to a 5- win over the Transylvania University women's soccer team Wednesday.

Hanover College entered Wednesday's match atop the conference standings and averaged a conference best four goals per contest.

The Panthers threatened early with a shot that sailed over the crossbar less than a minute into play. Transylvania's defense, however, stiffened keeping the high scoring offense out of the net. The Panthers, however, found the net in the seventh minute to take a 1-0 lead.

The Pioneers offense was not phased, as senior Alyssa Kruse sent a shot off her right foot only to be saved by Hanover's Karlee VanDerWeele helping the Panthers hold the lead.

Both offenses traded shots, as Transylvania tallied three more shots before Hanover added its second score of the night with 31:49 on the clock when Tricia Walsh found the net on a cross from Rachel Alvis.  Minutes later, Walsh dribbled through the Transylvania defense for her second goal of the night putting the Panthers up 3-0.

Following the break, the Hanover offense added two goals less than a minute apart extending their lead to 5-0.

With one game remaining, the Pioneers sit one back in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings.

The Pioneers host Anderson University for another HCAC match Saturday at Pat Deacon Stadium. Saturday's match is scheduled for 2 p.m.
