Box Score LEXINGTON, Ky.—The Transylvania University women's soccer team routed Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Anderson University on Saturday, 4-0.
A hat trick from senior forward Alyssa Kruse and three goals scored in the second half propelled the Pioneers to victory over the visiting Ravens. Kruse opened the scoring for Transylvania in the 7th minute.
The score would remain 1-0 through the end of the first half and until the 64th minute, when freshman defender Morgan Janes netted a goal to put the Pioneers up 2-0. Kruse would put the game away with goals in the 67th and 82nd minute. The three goals on the day give Kruse nine total on the season.
Transylvania dominated the match, limiting possession for Anderson and holding them to only four shots in the match, three of which were on target. Pioneer goalkeeper, sophomore Morgan Potts, recorded saves on all three and picked up her fifth win on the season.
Offensively, the Pioneers found space throughout the match and ripped off 16 shots, including peppering the Anderson goalie with 12 shots on target. Kruse's three goals led Transy, as did her seven shots and six on goal. Janes' goal was her fifth of the season.
The win capped off a late-season resurgence for Transy, who won five of their last six matches. The team will fall a half game short of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament, however. Transylvania finishes the regular season with a 7-12 record and 5-4 in HCAC play; Manchester edged the Pioneers for the fourth seed in the tournament with a conference record of 5-3-1.
