Box Score HANOVER, Ind. --- The Pioneers opened Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference post-season play traveling to Havover in the conference semifinals on this warm November afternoon. #4 seeded Transylvania (7-8-2, 5-3-1) came into the game to avenge a regular season 1-0 loss to the #1 seeded Panthers (13-5-0, 8-1-0) and move forward in HCAC soccer action.
Transylvania came out ready to play with Charlotte Pruet and Erin Koch attacking the goal early. Koch had two excellent looks at the goal, but was unable to put the ball on goal. Pruetts look in the first half shot went high barely missing the top bar. Hanover would push into the Pioneer offensive zone in the 20th minute, and find successes with Anna Cornacchione netting two goals in a three minute span to give us a halftime score of 2-0. Despites statistically similar numbers in the first half in most categories, the Panthers held a six to two advantage in corner kicks.
Coming out of the break, the Pioneers wasted little time in tightening the score and pulling within one in the 53rd minute. Lindsey Sizemore fired in a 26 foot shot from the left side past the Panthers net-minder to close the gap 2-1. Transylvania would keep up offensive pressure throughout the remainder of the half with shots coming in from Morgan Janes and Nicole Dal Pozzo to keep the majority of the action in the Pioneer zone and increase pressure on the Hanover defense. Despite a fantastic offensive push, the Pioneers could not capitalize and game would end 2-1 with Hanover advancing to the HCAC Finals. Junior goalkeeper Morgan Potts faced 16 shots throughout the 90 mins of regulation.
