Box Score DANVILLE, Ky. –Three first half goals gave No. 21 Centre College the momentum they needed to top the Transylvania University women's soccer team Friday night at Hillside Field.
The Colonels (2-0) capitalized off a corner kick on an early possession, as Nancy Ingham gave Centre a 1-0 lead. Minutes later the Colonels added another score to extend their lead to 2-0.
The Pioneers' defense stiffened as both teams were held scoreless until a goal at the 27:59 mark gave the Colonels a 3-0 lead.
Transylvania's Erin Miller sent a shot toward the Colonel goal on the first possession of the second half, but the ball was blocked as Centre regained possession. The Colonels' lone goal in the second half gave Centre the 4-0 victory over the visiting Pioneers.
"Centre is a very good team," head coach Michael Fulton said. "I thought we kept competing and that is the most important thing. We responded very well to the adversity in the game, but Centre was able to make us make some mistakes and they made us pay for them."
Transylvania (0-1) returns to action Sept. 11 at Pat Deacon Stadium. Friday's game is scheduled 7 p.m. Live stats and live video are available here.
"I believe we will be fine down the road once we can regroup and learn from this loss," Fulton said.
