Box Score Hanover, Ind. – After a closely contested first half, the Hanover College Panthers caught fire in the second half to claim a 5-0 victory against the Transylvania women's soccer team at the Hanover College Athletic Complex on Wednesday night.
The Pioneers ventured to Hanover aiming to build upon a sizable 6-1 victory against Defiance last Saturday, but it was the host Panthers who handed the Pios a five-margin defeat on this evening.
The Pioneers dropped to 1-3-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with five games remaining on the conference schedule.
The Panthers unleashed a busy attack on the Pioneers defense, which showed in the 14 total saves collected by senior goalkeeper Morgan Potts. After weathering a series of shots on goal by the Panthers, a shot escaped Potts's grasp as the Panthers were able to convert in the 30th minute on a crosser to give Hanover a 1-0 lead.
The Pioneers mustered their fair share of shots and opportunities as well, coming up with a patient and balanced attack in each half, but could not discover an equalizer late in the first half.
Hanover began the second half with an offensive torrent that the Pioneers could not stifle. The second goal of the evening for the Panthers came seven minutes into the second half. The Panthers registered two more goals in the next 16 minutes for a forceful 4-0 lead.
The Pioneers now return home to Lexington for their longest homestand of the season with four straight matches. The first of those four games comes this Saturday, October 15 as they host the Manchester Spartans. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at Pat Deacon Stadium.
