Pioneers women's soccer wrap up season with dominant win at Bluffton

Box Score

Bluffton, Ohio –The Transylvania women's soccer team capped off their 2016 season with a resounding 11-0 victory over the Bluffton University Beavers on Saturday afternoon at the Sears Complex.

Transylvania was led on offense by senior midfielder Charlotte Pruet, who recorded her first hat trick of the season in what also served as her final game as a pioneer. Pruet recorded an assist to her memorable personal and team finale for 2016.

The game between the Beavers and the Pioneers which was in question earlier in the week, was played with each team fielding only nine players at a time due a lack of healthy Bluffton players.

The Pioneers took advantage of the Beavers lack of depth, as they completely dominated the game offensively. Transylvania outshot Bluffton 51-4 in the game, and earned 10 corner kicks to Bluffton's zero.

Sophomore forward Noel Obata scored the Pioneers' first goal of the day just seven minutes into the contest off of a pass from Pruet.

Just minutes later, senior forward Erin Snyder added an unassisted goal to double the Pioneer lead. Less than a minute later, Pruet scored off of an Obata assist. Pruet would add her second goal of the half in the 14th minute to make the Pioneers lead 4-0.

The first half's final goal came from a connection between senior defender Erin Koch and sophomore midfielder Bailey Browning, whose goal pushed the halftime deficit to five goals for Bluffton.

The second half would follow a similar script to that of the first. In a span of three minutes sophomore forward Brenna D'Amico added two unassisted goals, bringing the Transylvania total to seven.

Then in less than a minute, Pruet and senior defender Nicole Dal Pozzo added another pair of goals to bring the margin to 9-0 in favor of the Pioneers.

In the 73rd minute Snyder added her second goal of the day, followed shortly by sophomore forward Maddie Sjogren's strike, to make the final score 11-0.

The Pioneers defense held strong throughout the day, as they allowed the Beavers to take just one shot on goal. The trio of Pioneers goalkeepers Ally Barfield, Sloan Cromwell, and Morgan Potts combined to earn Transylvania's second shutout of the season.

The victory moved Transylvania's record to 4-11-2 overall, and 4-5 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Pioneers finish the season in sixth place in the conference standings.
