Box Score Lexington, Ky. -The Transylvania women's soccer team fought hard on the defensive side of the pitch, but failed to get going offensively, as they fell to the Centre Colonels 1-0 on Wednesday night.
The contest was a physical one from the very start. Both sides showed resolve as the teams took turns pressuring each other's goalkeepers early in the game. While the Pioneers controlled the ball at times throughout the first half, they were not able to turn the passing game into a goal.
After holding the Colonels at bay for a good portion of the first half, a bad sequence of defense by the Pioneers led to a goal by Centre forward Destinie Graves. This would prove to be the only goal of the game.
The second half played out much like the first, as Transylvania failed to put any real pressure on the Colonels keeper. For the game, Transylvania was outshot 24-6 by Centre. The Pioneers were led offensively by sophomore forward Maddie Sjogren who recorded two shots on goal.
Another bright spot for the Pioneers was continued stellar play of goalkeeper Morgan Potts. While withstanding 24 shots, eight of which were on goal, Potts only gave up one goal. Potts now boasts a .839 save percentage and has recorded 26 saves in the young season, the second most among keepers in the HCAC.
The Pioneers return to action as they travel to Tiffin, Ohio for a match up with Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Heidelberg on Friday, September 9. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
