Box Score Delaware, Ohio – The Transylvania women's soccer team opened the 2019 season a 4-1 loss to the Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops at the Jay Martin Soccer Complex on Friday evening.
The Pioneers fell behind early as the Bishops opened the scoring with a goal in the 14th minute via Ohio Wesleyan's Ellie Redman. Afterward, the Pioneers' defense settled in, and the score remained 1-0 into the second half.
The Bishops doubled their lead midway through the period with a goal from Caroline Elliott.
Transylvania got on the board when freshman Meron Roach scored her first career goal in the 86th minute, cutting Ohio Wesleyan's lead to 2-1. On the night, Roach tallied four shots, three of which were on frame.
However, the Bishops came storming back to score a pair of goals in the final two minutes of play to push the final score to 4-1 in favor of Ohio Wesleyan.
The Bishops controlled the ball throughout the night, outshooting Transylvania 21-10.
Goalkeeper Morgan Patton recorded six saves for Transylvania in the season-opening loss.
Up next, the Pioneers will travel to St. Louis, Missouri to take on the Fontbonne Griffins on Saturday, August 7. First touch is set for 2:00 p.m. at Centene Stadium.
