Box Score Hanover, Ind. – The Transylvania women's soccer team endured a 3-0 setback to the Hanover College Panthers on Tuesday afternoon at the Hanover Soccer Complex.
Hanover improved to 3-0 on the season and 3-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play while the Pioneers suffered their first loss of the 2021 campaign to drop to 2-1 overall and 2-1 in the HCAC.
The Panthers got on the scoreboard early on the afternoon with a third minute goal from the Panthers' Kelsey Hughes. Transylvania attempted to return the favor three minutes later by winning a corner kick, but Cass Thomas' shot sailed wide and Hanover retook possession.
After jostling for possession for much of the half, Transylvania aimed for the equalizer just seconds before halftime but Kennedy Kirkpatrick's header was secured by Hanover's keeper.
The Panthers tacked on an insurance goal six minutes into the second half for a 2-0 advantage and relied on firm defense to hold Transylvania scoreless for the rest of the afternoon.
Junior Morgan Patton provided a noble final line of defense for the Pioneers on Tuesday with eight total saves, including five in the first half. Keeper Jenna Shalash made her debut for Transylvania, operating the final 16 minutes of the match in goal.
Transylvania continues its 2020-21 spring schedule on Wednesday, March 17 against the Mount St. Joseph University Lions in Lexington. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. between the Pioneers and Lions from Pat Deacon Stadium.
