Transylvania softball shows off power in Senior Day sweep of Spalding

Lexington, Ky. – Abby Frazier and Taylor Senter each hit two home runs as the Transylvania softball team picked up a pair of lopsided victories over the Spalding University Golden Eagles at Hall Field on Sunday afternoon.

Transylvania powered its way to an 8-2 victory in game one and closed down the Eagles, 11-3 in five innings in the nightcap to send off eight seniors with plenty of reasons to celebrate.

With the wins, the Pioneers improve to 20-8 on the year and have now won seven straight games while Spalding dropped to 12-11 overall.

In game one, each team struggled to manufacture runs in the opening innings as both pitchers appeared locked in for a low-scoring affair. Then, Senter and Frazier each smacked solo home runs in the third and fourth innings, respectively to give Transylvania a 2-0 lead.

Allyson O'Dell got in on the action in the bottom of the fifth when she drilled a two-run double into left-centerfield, extending the Pioneers' lead to 4-0.

After the Golden Eagles scored twice in the top of the sixth, the Pioneers manufactured four runs on five hits and a Spalding error in the bottom half of the frame, securing the 8-2 victory for Transylvania.

Kameron Bowling picked up the victory in the circle for Transylvania after recording six strikeouts and scattering five hits over seven innings of work. Bowling allowed just two runs and now boasts a record of 11-6 on the season.

The Pioneers opened game two with a bang, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by Senter and an RBI single to centerfield via Annie Schuck.

Leading the Golden Eagles 3-2, Transylvania exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the third on a plethora of hits, including an RBI single by Courtney Gentry. The hit was the first of Gentry's career. The Pioneers capped off the inning with Senter's second home run of the day, leading to the eventual 11-3 victory.

Cece Wittry picked up the victory in the circle for Transylvania. The senior tallied a career-high five strikeouts and allowed just one run over 3.1 innings of work.

The Pioneers will be back in action on Wednesday, May 5, for a nonconference doubleheader against the Manchester University Spartans. First pitch of game one is set for 4:00 p.m. at Hall Field.
