Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania softball team cruised to a pair of 11-0 and 13-3 wins over the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Fightin' Engineers on Friday evening at Hall Field.
The Pioneers picked up their 23rd and 24th wins of the season to grow their winning streak to 11 games following another dominant pair of wins against a conference opponent.
Transylvania now stands at 12-2 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play on the eve of the regular-season finale against Anderson while the Engineers finished their season at 3-13 in conference play. Transylvania is now 10-3 at Hall Field this season.
Carlee Jeter tossed 4.1 innings to collect the game one win as the freshman rode nonstop run support to the finish line for her second win of the season.
Transylvania used a grand slam from Allyson O'Dell in the opening inning to accrue a 5-0 lead that would steadily increase through the next two innings as the Pioneers built an 11-0 lead after three frames.
Taylor Senter, Annie Schuck, and Abby Frazier each registered RBI hits in the second inning for a three-run inning for the Pioneers. Transy replicated another three-run inning in the third on Senter's second hit of the game, a two-run double to left field to bring Cece Wittry and Courtney Gentry across the plate. Schuck's RBI single scored Senter to sign off on the double-digit win.
The Pioneers tallied 10 hits in the game one win; Jeter struck out two and allowed no walks and just one hit.
It was the same song, second verse as the Pioneers plated a sweltering 10 runs in the opening inning of game two. Wittry began the scoring with an inside-the-park home run for the first of 10 runs as the Pioneers registered 11 hits while the Engineers committed three errors.
Transylvania answered a two-run third inning from the Engineers with three more runs over the third and fourth innings to march forward to the sweep. The Pioneers tallied 18 hits in game two to seal up the victory.
Wittry picked up the win in game two to move to 10-1 on the season. Wittry, Senter, Schuck, Frazier, O'Dell, and Stella Wulker all had two hits apiece.
The Pioneers will look to clinch a share of the HCAC regular season title tomorrow in the doubleheader finale versus the Anderson University Ravens at Hall Field. The 1:00 p.m. doubleheader will determine the regular-season conference champions and the host team for the upcoming conference tournament.
