Box Score Cincinnati, Ohio – The Transylvania women's soccer team could not find their footing in a rain-soaked 1-0 defeat to the Sewanee Tigers at Schueler Field on Saturday night.
The loss drops the Pioneers to 1-1-0 on the season while the win for the Tigers boosts their record to 2-0-0.
In their first match of the year away from home, the Pioneers looked to make a statement against a strong non-conference opponent. Battling the inclement weather, both teams battled to control the ball and settle into the flow of the game.
After chances were earned from both sides, the Tigers struck in the 28th minute. After a quick throw-in on the right side of the pitch, Sewanee forward Olivia Rhodes struck a shot that snuck in at the near post to give the Tigers a 1-0 advantage.
The second half of action saw both teams come close to adding to the scoring column, but the game ended at 1-0 in favor of the Tigers.
The Pioneers will look to bounce back as they complete their stay in Cincinnati in a clash against the Wilmington College Quakers on Sunday afternoon. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM at Schueler Field on the campus of Mount St. Joseph University.
