At Hall Field for a beautiful day of softball, the Pioneers swept the Defiance Yellow Jackets in shut out fashion for both games, 6-0 and 7-0. Prior to game one, the team had Transy alumni and hall of fame member, Sherry Holley '88 throw the first pitch. They also honored softball alumni between games for their time with the program.
In game one, junior Carlee Jeter earned her 12th win on the season with five strikeouts and scattering just three hits. Senior Annie Shuck led the Pioneers going 3-4 with 4RBI and two runs and junior Stella Wulker going 2-3 with an RBI.
The Pioneers started quick in the bottom of the first with three runs. Senior Abby Frazier started with a walk, followed by a walk for Hadlee Carter. Shuck sent an RBI single into center to score Frazier. A wild pitch would score Carter to make it 2-0. An RBI triple from junior Stella Wulker scored Shuck for a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third, two more runs made it 5-0 after Carter started with a walk and Shuck sent a two run homerun over the centerfield fence. Shuck would have another RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to score Ry'Ann Tharp after she had a leadoff walk to make it 6-0. The Pioneers held the Yellow Jackets scoreless through the rest of the game to earn the shutout.
In game two, freshman Sophie Moshos earned a no-hit shutout with nine strikeouts in the 7-0 win. The Pioneers played add-on with one run in each from the first three innings. In the bottom of the first, senior Abby Frazier singled up the middle and scored on an RBI single up the middle from senior Taylor Senter. In the second, Kinsey Smith was hit by a pitch to start the inning, and pinch runner Kennedi Stacy moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Carter. Stacy scored on a wild pitch for the 2-0 lead. In the third, Shuck reached base on a walk, then advanced to second on a passed ball, and scored when Wulker put the ball in play, reaching by error.
The score was 5-0 after the fourth inning where Kinsey Smith singled to right (pinch runner Addy Mack), Frazier added another runner after being hit by a pitch for senior Emily Hestand's 2RBI triple down the right field line.
Wulker started the fifth with a single to shortstop, followed by Mack's perfectly placed RBI bunt single, scoring Wulker. An RBI sacrifice bunt from sophomore Reagan Rouleau scored Mack for the 7-0 lead and final score.
The Pioneers are now 4-0 in HCAC play and will play Manchester next Saturday after finals week.
