On a beautiful day in Lexington, the #17 Pioneers played a doubleheader against the Anderson Ravens to kick off HCAC play. Transy won game one 8-0 and game two went extra innings with the Pioneers winning 5-4 in the eighth.
Game 1:
In the bottom of the first, the Pioneers put up a four spot. They scored first off a Hadlee Carter base hit, followed by a walk for Annie Schuck, and then a Taylor Senter RBI single. Junior Stella Wulker followed up with a base hit to load the bases. Junior Carlee Jeter came up big with a double to left, scoring all three baserunners.
The Pioneers put up two more runs in the bottom of the second starting with a base hit from Abby Frazier to right field. Carter reached on an error by the third baseman, advancing Frazier. Shuck followed up with a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Frazier for the RBI. With Carter on base, Wulker doubled down the left field line to score Carter and pick up the fourth run for the Pioneers.
In the sixth, the Pioneers had a pair of homeruns from seniors Abby Frazier over deep left center and Annie Shuck straight out to center, both solo shots gave the home team the 8-0 lead. Shuck's homerun made it a walkoff run-rule win over the Ravens. Frazier went 3-4, RBI, and two runs scored, Shuck went 1-2 with a walk, 2RBI, and two runs scored.
Junior Carlee Jeter earned the win, going six innings with two strikeouts.
Game 2:
In game two, the Pioneers got on the board in the second inning. Senior Taylor Senter was hit by a pitch, Carson Murray reached on a fielder's choice to put two Pioneers on the bases. Emily Hestand added her own single down the right field line to load the bases for Kinsey Smith. Smith lined out to right for the sacrifice fly to score Senter, giving them the 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, Katie Mewes singled up the middle. Sophomore Ry'Ann Tharp launched an inside the park home run to deep right, scoring Mewes, and picking up two RBI and the 3-0 lead.
Freshman Sophie Moshos pitched through the top of the fifth, giving up zero runs and striking out two before being relieved by Carlee Jeter.
The Ravens scored one in the top of the sixth, but the Pioneers answered in the bottom of the inning with Tharp's triple to right center and Abby Frazier's RBI single to left center.
After the Ravens tied it up in the top of the seventh, the Pioneers came back in the bottom of the eighth. For the international tie-breaker, Tharp was placed on second base. Frazier stepped up with a bunt single on the first base line advancing Tharp to third. Carter followed with a walk to load the bases for Shuck. Shuck took one for the team and earned the RBI on a hit by pitch to earn her second walk-off on the day to win 5-4. Jeter picked up her 10th win on the year after 3.1 innings (9.1 on the day).
Transy Softball will be on the road this week at Centre, April 6th for a doubleheader at 5 and 7.
