In Cincinnati, #23 Transy Softball sweeps MSJ to take the number one spot in the HCAC at 13-1 in conference play.
The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth inning when junior Stella Wulker sent a solo homerun over the left field fence to give the Pioneers the 1-0 lead.Â
In the sixth inning, MSJ added one to make it 1-1 taking the same score through to the top of the eighth. The international tiebreaker placed Ry'Ann Tharp on second base for senior Abby Frazier. Frazier laid down a bunt single and advanced Tharp to third. Frazier then stole second to give the Pioneers two in scoring position. A walk for senior Annie Shuck gave bases loaded for senior Taylor Senter. Tharp scored on an RBI single from Senter, Frazier made it to third and Addy Mack (pinch runner for Shuck) moved up to second. A passed ball would score Frazier to make it 3-1 for the Pioneers.Â
Though the Lions put up one run in the bottom of the inning, the lead held, giving the win to freshman Sophie Moshos. Moshos is now 12-6 on the year, adding five strikeouts to her now 113.Â
In game two, the Pioneers started early with four runs in the first inning. Frazier led off with a walk and Mewes followed suit, putting two on for Shuck. Shuck sent an RBI single into left center to score Frazier and move Mewes to third. During a steal attempt, Shuck got into a run-down between first and second to allow Mewes to score and push their lead to 2-0. Wulker singled to second to put a runner on before Carson Murray sent a homerun over the center field fence to earn the 4-0 lead.Â

Going into the top of the fourth, the Pioneers were up 4-3. Wulker led off with a single to left. With one out, Emilie Teall sent a ball over the outfield fence for what could have been a two-run homerun, but was negated by a baserunning call on Wulker for leaving early. Instead, with two outs, Teall still sent a solo homerun out of center field to make it 5-3. Hadlee Carter started up again with a walk and scored on an RBI triple by Tharp, 6-3 Pioneers.Â

At the top of five, Mewes led off with a walk and stole second. Wulker hit her second homerun of the day, this time a two-run homerun out of left field to make it 8-3. Thought MSJ added one in the bottom of the inning, that was all they would be able to answer with, giving the 8-4 final score. Junior Carlee Jeter earned her 17th win of the year with five strikeouts.Â
The Pioneers will host Rose-Hulman on Saturday for Senior Day, the doubleheader at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
