HANOVER, IN - Transylvania University earned another HCAC conference victory, their fifth of the season, defeating Hanover on Wednesday. In addition to earning another HCAC win, it is the first victory at Hanover since 2009, and the first against Hanover since 2010.Â
Carrie Stevens was a strong presence in the goal for Transy in the opening moments of the match, as Hanover fired seven shots in the first fourteen minutes of play. Three were saved by Stevens. Hanover would score first in the afternoon matchup, landing a shot at the 24:03 mark, but Transylvania would respond quickly. Just minutes later,
Isabella White would score after her initial penalty shot was missed, getting a second look and landing the tying goal for the Pioneers at 28:08.Â
Transy would find another scoring opportunity minutes into the second half. As the Pioneers intensified their offensive attack in the box, Hanover fell victim to an own-goal while attempting to clear the ball. This would give the Pioneers a 2-1 advantage at the 53:00 mark of the second half. Transy would continue to look for opportunities to build on the lead, as the Pioneers launched eleven more shot attempts at Hanover.
Carrie Stevens would save a final shot attempt from Hanover at the 89:29 mark, securing a 2-1 victory for Transylvania, improving to 6-4-3 and 5-0-2 in HCAC play.
Co-Head Coach Ashley Reinecke noted that a performance like the one Transy delivered Wednesday will be critical for the Pioneers to build on.
"This was a massive result, it's a win that is necessary if we want to compete for the league title," said Reinecke. "Defensively, I thought we were extremely focused, dedicated to being first to the ball, winning individual battles and working together. Once we settled into the game, we created several dangerous opportunities and were potent enough to get the win."
Transy continues HCAC competition on Sunday, November 2nd, as they travel to take on Bluffton at 2 p.m.
