TERRE HAUTE, IN - The Pioneers show true grit and determination in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Semifinals. The match took place Wednesday evening, as Rose-Hulman advanced with a 1-0 win.Â
Transylvania started the match with the offense pressuring the fighting engineers. In the first minute
Eva Blanke had a shot go high and 10 minutes later
Maddi Benjamin would force Rose-Hulman's goalie to make a save. In the 30th minute, the Pioneer offense would find Makenna Johnson where she would have a shot on goal be saved. Transylvania's
Carrie Stevens would make her first save of the match in the 35th minute, after a shot in the top left corner.Â
The second half would begin with Rose Hulman's, Alex Adams taking a shot and hitting the cross bar; Where Rose-Hulman would connect with the rebound and make the score 1-0. In the 53rd and 58th minute, Transylvania's
Abby Manning and
Lilia Steen were assessed yellow cards. Despite the 1-0 deficit, Transylvania remained determined to find the equalizer. Transy was awarded a corner kick in the 60th minute. Makenna Johnson would connect with the cross, and force the fighting engineer defender to make a goal line save. Transylvania was awarded back to back corners in the 65th and 67th minutes. A yellow card was assessed to Rose-Hulman's Katie Choi in the 80th minute. A late push by Rose in the 89th minute, was stopped by
Carrie Stevens bottom left save.Â
Head Coach Ashley Reinecke is grateful for the opportunity to coach this years Pioneers and is proud of their teams determination and effort shown.Â
"I hate this ending for our team and our seniors. Of course we had hoped to advance to the conference final, but tonight wasn't our night." Reinecke said.
