LOUSIVILLE, Ky. - Transylvania Softball is now 4-0 to begin the 2024 season after sweeping Wooster and Spalding in back to back days. The Pioneers shutout Wooster 6-0 this afternoon and defeated Spalding 6-3 in the final game. Transy outscored their opponents 17-6 this weekend.
Game 1 - Transy 6, Wooster 0
Transy scored all six of their runs on in the second and third innings.
Emily Sizemore started the second off with a double to left field, then advanced to third on a single by
Carson Murray. After coming in to pinch run for Sizemore,
Addy Mack stole third and later scored on an RBI single by
Brenna Fisher. Five of Transy's six runs came in the third, as
Avery Parsons took home when
Stella Wulker stole second. She'd score on an RBI single by
Izzy Story. Three batters later with two outs,
Ella Steczynski doubled down the left field line to score Story.
The final Pioneer run came from a
Madelyn Gilley RBI single.
Sophie Moshos,
Trinity Bridges, and
Natalie Contreras gave up just five hits total on the mound, and earned the combined shutout. Contreras earned her first win of the season after pitching the final two innings in relief. She struck out two batters.
Game 2 - Transy 6, Spalding 3
Transy scored six unanswered runs after being down 0-3 in the third inning. The Pioneers responded with a three run third inning thanks to a sacrifice fly by
Izzy Story to score
Ry'Ann Tharp. After a
Dakota Burke single,
Stella Wulker hit the Pioneers's first home run of the season, a two run shot over the left field wall to tie the game.
Transy took the lead in the fourth after
Carson Murray's second hit of the afternoon came from a triple to the right center gap, and was later scored on a sacrifice fly. Transy added one run in the sixth on an RBI groundout by
Ella Steczynski and in the seventh on Murray's fourth hit of the game, a RBI single to left field.
With one runner on in the seventh,
Sophie Moshos got the batter to ground out to end the game.
Carlee Jeter earned her second win of the season after throwing four innings and striking out two. Moshos struck out four in three innings of work.
