LEXINGTON - The No. 12th ranked Transy Softball team dropped their doubleheader matchup to Maryville on Tuesday afternoon. The Pioneers lost game one 1-8 and game two 6-7.
Game 1: Transy 1, Maryville 8
The Scots struck first in the first inning with a two-run home run. After reaching base with a single to center,
Avery Parsons scored on a dropped ball by the center fielder to make it a 1-2 game. The Scots extended their lead in the fifth inning on their second home run of the game, a three run home run to make it a 1-5 game. The Scots would add one run in the sixth and two in the seventh to eventually win 1-8.
Izzy Story led all Pioneers with two hits.
Sophie Moshos started the game and went five innings, striking out three batters.
Natalie Contreras came in relief, striking out one batter in one inning.
Game 2: Transy 6, Maryville 7
Maryville struck first again with two runs in the first, but Transy responded with a three run first inning.
Izzy Story led the game off with a home run to cut into the Maryville lead.
Jordan Fico singled up the middle to tie the game, and
Emily Sizemore gave Transy its first lead of the evening with a sac-fly that scored
Dakota Burke. The Pioneers made it a 2-5 ballgame in the fourth as one of the four Scots' errors brought in Ella Stecynski and
Izzy Story.
Maryville responded with timely hitting with a three run fifth to tie the game at 5-5. Transy then took the lead back the next half inning at 6-5 on Story's second hit of the game, a double to bring in
Brenna Fisher.
Maryville tied the game in the sixth on an RBI single, but would then hit an RBI triple to take a 7-6 lead. Transylvania would leave a runner stranded in the sixth, and go down in order in the seventh
Izzy Story and
Dakota Burke led Transy in the game with two hits each. Story,
Emily Sizemore, and
Jordan Fico all added RBI's.
Carlee Jeter pitched a complete game in the loss. She finished the game with two strikeouts.
Up next: Transylvania (9-6) will hit the road for conference play as they take on Anderson to end the month of March. The March 30th doubleheader is scheduled for 1 PM and 4 PM.
