LEXINGTON - The no. 22 ranked Transylvania Softball team advanced to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball championship for the 7th consecutive season. The Pioneers, who have yet to allow a run in the tournament, defeated the Grizzlies 5-0 behind a big second inning offensively and a complete game shutout from
Sophie Moshos, who earned her 14th win of the season.
The Pioneers have now outscored their opponents 13-0 in the conference tournament thus far. Transylvania scored all 5 of their runs in the 2nd inning, as they'd string together 5 hits and take advantage of a costly error by the Franklin left fielder.
After getting a hit to center field with 1 out,
Izzy Story would advance to third on a double by
Emily Sizemore.
Reagan Rouleau would then single to center field to put the Pioneers on the board. With bases loaded a few batters later,
Dakota Burke singled to left field to score both Sizemore and Rouleau, and
Katie Mewes would also score on the play as the left fielder made an error after the hit. With two outs and Burke on second base,
Stella Wulker made it a 5-0 Transy lead with an RBI single up the middle.
Sophie Moshos held the Grizzlies to just 2 hits while striking 6 batters. It's the second time this season she has earned the win in the circle against the Grizzlies.
Stella Wulker led the Pioneers in hits with 2.
Dakota Burke's 2 RBI's led the team.Â
Up next: The Pioneers are now in the championship game scheduled for tomorrow at 3 PM. They'll await the winner of the loser's bracket game between Mount St. Joseph and Franklin.
