TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - No. 25 Transylvania Softball swept Rose-Hulman on Saturday afternoon, clinching the No. 1 seed for the HCAC tournament next week and earning the right to host the tournament for the fourth season in a row. Transylvania finishes the regular season 31-8 overall and 16-2 in conference play while ending the regular season on a 6 game win streak.
The Pioneers outscored Rose-Hulman 11-0 on the day.
Game one: Transy 4, Rose-Hulman 0
Carlee Jeter earned her 16th win of the season, adding to her league leading total. She pitched her 10th complete game of the season and earned her 5th shutout while allowing only 3 hits.
The Pioneer offense combined for 7 hits in game one, with
Dakota Burke and
Izzy Story leading the charge with 2 hits each.
Transylvania took an early 1-0 lead in the 2nd as
Emily Sizemore doubled to score
Izzy Story. In the 3rd inning,
Ella Steczynski singled to score
Dakota Burke to give Transy the 2-0 lead.
Izzy Story hit her 5th home run of the season in the 4th, a solo shot over the left field wall to extend the lead to 3 runs.
Katie Mewes scored the final run of the game on a fielders choice after bunting to the pitcher, scoring
Madelyn Gilley.
The win was Transy's 28th all time against the Fightin' Engineers, and the 15th consecutive win dating back to 2016.
Game two: Transy 7, Rose-Hulman 0
Sophie Moshos won her 13th game of the season. She pitched her 10th complete game of the season with a 10 strikeout, 4 hit shutout to lead Transy to their 31st win of the season.
The Pioneer offense combined for 10 hits in game two, and were led by a 3-3, 1 RBI performance from
Avery Parsons and a 1-2 3 RBI game from
Stella Wulker.
Transylvania scored 4 runs in the second, as
Stella Wulker singled to bring in
Avery Parsons and
Brenna Fisher.
Emily Sizemore hit her 1st home the season, a 2 run shot over the left field wall to score her and Wulker and bring the lead to 4-0. TU added 2 more in the 3rd, as Parsons hit an infield single to bring in Steczynski. Wulker flew out to right field and brought in Story for her 3rd RBI of the game.
The Pioneers scored their final run of the game on an RBI single by Steczynski with bases loaded.
Transy's starting pitching duo of
Carlee Jeter and
Sophie Moshos allowed just 7 hits on the day, while earning the second series shutout of the season.
With the wins, Transylvania clinches the No. 1 seed in the HCAC Softball tournament and will host the tournament May 9th-12th at John and Donna Hall Field. They'll face the winner of the No. 4 seed and No. 5 seed game on Thursday, May 6th at 3 PM.
