Transylvania Defeats Olivet In Opening Game of Gratz Park Private Wealth Classic

LEXINGTON, KY- Transylvania Women Basketball won against The University of Olivet 61-45 in the opening game of the 2025 Gratz Park Private Wealth Holiday Tournament. The game was played at the Clive M. Beck Center on Transylvania campus.

 Transylvania had two different players score in double figures with Sierra Kemelgor leading the Pioneers with 17 points. Riley Flinn was the leading rebounder for the Pioneers with 12 rebounds.

 The Pioneers were leading 5-4 going into the first timeout of the game with 4:57 left in the first quarter. However, the Comets were leading 12-8 late in the first quarter. The Pioneers came back and tied it up at 12 apiece with less than a minute left in the first quarter.  Transylvania held a 15-13 edge after the first quarter as Makya Grinter was the leading scorer for the Pioneers in the first quarter with four points.

 The Pioneers were pulling ahead in the second quarter as they were leading 24-19 going into the first timeout of the quarter. The Pioneers expanded their lead further with a 34-19 edge with four minutes left in the first half. The Pioneers held a 36-26 edge at halftime. Keaton Hall was the leading scorer in the first half for the Pioneers with nine points while dishing out four assists as well.  Riley Flinn was the leading rebounder for the Pioneers in the first half with seven rebounds. The Pioneers were shooting 46.4 percent from the floor in the first half while shooting 33.3 percent from beyond the arc.

 The Pioneers came out of halftime with the same focus expanding their lead to 42-26 going into the first timeout of the second half. The Pioneers and their staunch defense held the Comets scoreless in the second half until the 2:00 mark in the third quarter. The Comets only scored five points in the third quarter as the Pioneers were still leading after third quarters 48-31.

 The Pioneers were still leading going into the middle of the fourth quarter with a lead of 52-41. Transylvania won 61-45 as they shot 37.7 percent from the floor. The Pioneers are now 7-2 in the season.

Transylvania returns to action on Tuesday, December 30th, 2025 for day two of the Gratz Park Private Wealth Holiday Tournament. The Pioneers will play in the championship game against the Worcester vs. Spalding winner. The game starts at 3:00 p.m.
