MISENHEIMER, N.C. — Transylvania University men's lacrosse saw its season come to an end Wednesday afternoon with a 15-8 loss to Pfeiffer University in NCAA Tournament first-round action at Lefko-Mills Field.
The Pioneers finished the season with a 12-5 overall record after capturing the 2026 HCLC Regular Season and Conference Tournament titles, and advancing to an NCAA Tournament appearance. Pfeiffer improved to 16-2 on the year and advanced to the second round. Pfeiffer jumped out to a 5-0 lead midway through the opening quarter before Transylvania answered with a goal from Patrick Slagle off an assist from Charlie Horner to make it 5-1 at the end of the first.
The Pioneers mounted their strongest push in the second quarter. Andrew Welch scored twice on feeds from Huck Campbell, while Campbell added a pair of goals of his own during the stretch. Slagle also scored his second goal of the contest as Transylvania closed the deficit to 8-6 at halftime. Pfeiffer pulled away in the third quarter with five goals to extend its advantage to 13-7 entering the final period. Horner scored for the Pioneers in the third off an assist from Ben Gaccino.
Josh Harney added a man-down goal in the fourth quarter on an assist from Campbell, but Pfeiffer answered with two late goals to secure the 15-8 victory. Campbell led the Pioneers offensively with two goals and three assists, while Welch and Slagle each added two goals. Horner finished with a goal and an assist, and Harney also scored for Transylvania.
Nick DeGrandi recorded 22 saves in goal for the Pioneers.
