Danville, Ky. – In its second game of the young season, the Transylvania Field Hockey team showed improvement, but still struggled to get going offensively as the Pioneers fell by the score of 2-0 to the Denison University Big Red on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Centre College.
The Pioneers showed poise throughout the first half as they held the Big Red scoreless while creating several offensive chances for themselves.
Transylvania earned four penalty corners in the first half in comparison to only three for Denison.
Offensively the Pioneers were led by freshman midfielder Audrey Denham, who recorded four shots on the day, one of which was on goal.
Junior goalkeeper Allyson Benz continued her strong start to the 2017 season as she recorded seven saves, while only allowing two goals in the losing effort for the Pioneers.
Up next, Transylvania will travel to Chambersburg, Pennsylvania to take part in the Wilson College Invitational on September 9 and 10. The Pioneers will face the East Mennonite University Royals in game one of the tournament. The matchup is set for a 12:00 p.m. start on Saturday, September 9.
