Danville, Ky. – The Transylvania field hockey team's offense was subdued in a 3-0 loss against the Centre College Colonels on Friday night at Centre's South Campus Field.
The Colonels were able to outdo the Pioneers in sheer volume, creating 25 shots to Transylvania's seven for the evening. The Pioneers mounted a series of attacks downfield, but Centre was quick to converge around the penalty circle with consistency to quell Transylvania's aim at a cohesive attack.
Centre got on the board twice in the first half, using scores from Brooklyn Bell in the 13th minute and another from Savannah Elpers in the 18th minute to forge a 2-0 lead. Bell tacked on one more goal in the 51st minute for the final margin of victory.
The Pioneers dropped to 5-10 overall and 2-3 in Southern Athletic Association play. Centre moved to 10-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play following the second meeting of the year between the teams and the first in official conference competition.
Transylvania junior goalie Allyson Benz commanded 11 saves on the evening to add to her conference-high 121 saves.
Following the cancellation of this Sunday's previously scheduled match vs. Lindenwood-Belleville, the Pioneers next look ahead to a Tuesday, October 24 match against Eastern Mennonite at Pat Deacon Stadium in Lexington. The Pioneers and Royals square off at 3:00 p.m.
