Transylvania men's golf wins dual match at Anderson Country Club versus Ravens

Anderson, Ind. – The Transylvania men's golf team delivered one last solid performance before hitting the tournament portion of its 2019 season, winning a dual match against the Anderson University Ravens on Saturday afternoon at the Anderson Country Club.

The Pioneers defeated Anderson 288 to 326 in a one-on-one team score stroke play format as they competed at the site of Rounds 3 and 4 of the upcoming Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's golf tournament.

Transylvania will host the first two rounds of this year's HCAC tournament on April 27-28 in Lexington before the action shifts to the Anderson Country Club, built in 1902, the following weekend.

Saturday's 18-hole gathering provided not only a look for the Pioneers at one of the two conference championship venues but also sent them into the tournament stretch on a winning note.

Senior Zach Treilobs and junior Spencer McKinney led the Pioneers in their final pre-tournament tune-up as each shot a two-under-par 70 to spur the winning charge on Saturday. Treilobs delivered four birdies on Saturday while McKinney holed five. Treilobs enjoyed a consistent day with a one-under 35 on both the front and back nine.

McKinney continued his blistering spring with a 34 on the front nine and a 36 on the back nine to finish at two-under.

Junior Harrison Lane turned in a two-over 74, highlighted by his eagle on the 16th hole. Lane enjoyed a stretch of consistency as he finished with 13 pars on Saturday.

Senior Jack Berger also sank four birdies on Saturday to equal Lane's 74. Berger's 35 on the front nine helped his cause.

Senior Blake Young finished with a three-over 75 as he finished off his day with a par on the 18th hole. Freshman Sam McNamara, competing as an individual on Saturday, matched Young with a 75.

Saturday's event launches the Pioneers into their final stretch of 2019; following next week's finals week, the Pioneers will compete at the HCAC Men's Golf Conference Tournament on Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28 at the University Club in Lexington for the first two rounds before resuming play at Anderson the following weekend. The Pioneers are vying for what would be their 13th straight conference title and subsequent 13th trip to the NCAA National Championships.

Transylvania University and Transylvania men's golf will be hosting the 2019 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships from May 14-17 at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
