Transylvania men's lacrosse halted by Centre in Tuesday clash

Centre 10 Transy 1

Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania men's lacrosse team struggled on offense throughout the night as the Pioneers suffered a 10-1 defeat at the hands of the in-state rival Centre Colonels at Pat Deacon Stadium on Wednesday night.

Junior attack Nick Bailey provided the Pioneers with their lone moment of offensive might in the game when he scored a goal late in the second quarter. The goal was Bailey's 12th of the season.

The Colonels took control of the game right from the start, scoring four goals in the first quarter and holding the Pioneers to just one shot on goal.

After Bailey's goal in the second quarter, Transylvania trailed Centre 6-1 heading into the halftime break.

While the Pioneers hoped to rebound in the second half, it was the Colonels who came out of the locker room ready to put the game away.

The Pioneers' offense continued to sputter and Centre outscored Transylvania 4-0 in the second half, leading to the 10-1 victory by the Colonels.

Freshman goalkeeper Michael Webb picked up the loss for Transylvania, recording seven saves against 10 goals allowed in 60 minutes of action.

With the loss, Transylvania's record falls to 5-6 overall and 3-1 in Ohio River Men's Lacrosse Conference play, while Centre moves to 5-6 on the year.

The Pioneers will look to move forward from tonight's loss when they return to ORLC play on Saturday, April 7 as they host Grove City College. Opening face-off between the Wolverines and the Pioneers is set for 1:00 p.m. at Pat Deacon Stadium.
