Greenwood, Ind. – The Transylvania women's and men's lacrosse teams will compete in the newly-formed Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference in the upcoming 2019 season, the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference office announced earlier this month.
The HCAC has adopted the nomenclature of the Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference, which will include five teams on the men's side, including Transylvania. Seven women's lacrosse teams will compete in the HCLC in 2019.
The men's conference will include familiar foes in Anderson University, Earlham College, Hanover College, Mount St. Joseph University, and Transylvania, whose counterparts all compete in the HCAC.
On the women's side Anderson, Earlham, Franklin College, Hanover, Mount St. Joseph, and Thomas More College will comprise the collection of HCLC teams.
According to the HCLC, the women's teams will complete a full round-robin schedule while the men will play each opponent in its conference twice during the 2019 season.
Following the conclusion of the HCLC season, a conference tournament will be held to award an automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Divison III Men's and Women's Lacrosse Tournaments.
The formation of the HCLC comes after the dissolution of the Ohio River Lacrosse Conference, which was previously made up of schools from the HCAC and Presidents' Athletic Conference.
Both the Transylvania men's and women's lacrosse teams captured the final automatic bids awarded by the ORLC in 2018; the women's squad advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in conference history while the men's program earned their second straight automatic bid by winning the last ORLC conference tournament.
