Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania men's lacrosse team has been projected for a first-place finish in the 2019 release of the Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference preseason coaches' poll.
The preseason poll in the newly-named conference slots the Pioneers atop the five-team conference in a vote of the conference's five coaches. The Pioneers received all five first-place votes to finish with 50 voting points. Hanover College followed in second with 45 points while Mount St. Joseph University checked in at third. Anderson University took fourth while Earlham College rounded out the poll at fifth place.
After competing in the Ohio River Lacrosse Conference with member teams of the Presidents' Athletic Conference for the past four seasons, the Pioneers join Hanover, Mount St. Joseph, Earlham, and Anderson's inaugural men's lacrosse team in the HCLC for 2019.
The Pioneers enter the HCLC as the four-time reigning conference tournament champions of the ORLC and look to continue their winning tradition against four other institutions which, along with Transylvania, help comprise the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference across other varsity sports.
Transylvania is coming off of a 12-7 overall season in 2018 and produced a 9-1 regular-season record in the final ORLC campaign, good for second place in the conference standings. Transylvania went on to defeat St. Vincent College 12-2 in the 2018 ORLC Tournament Championship game.
The Pioneers will open up the 2019 season on Wednesday, February 20 as they host the Augustana College Vikings at Pat Deacon Stadium for a 5:00 p.m. Eastern time face-off. Transylvania squares off in its first HCLC contest on March 13 at 7:00 p.m. as the Pioneers host Hanover at Pat Deacon Stadium.
