Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania men's lacrosse team will open up its 2019 NCAA Tournament journey with a second-round matchup at the Lynchburg College Hornets this Wednesday, May 8 in Lynchburg, Virginia.
The Pioneers found out their opening-round opponent during Sunday evening's NCAA selection show, streamed live on NCAA.com.
For the third straight year and third time in program history, the Pioneers (14-4, 8-0 Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference) will take on a team from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference as they battle Lynchburg (13-6, 9-1 ODAC) for the first time ever.
Transylvania clinched its third straight NCAA Tournament berth on Saturday by defeating Hanover 14-8 in the HCLC Tournament Championship, the fifth straight time the Pioneers have won the tournament championship game.
Lynchburg enters the 2019 NCAA Tournament as an at-large selection out of the ODAC after falling 8-7 earlier on Sunday in its conference championship game to Washington and Lee, the team that hosted and defeated the Pioneers in last year's NCAA Tournament second-round game.
Lynchburg is making its eighth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament and its 13th overall. The Hornets carry an NCAA Tournament record of 10-12. The Pioneers are 0-2 in NCAA Tournament appearances and made their tournament debut in 2017.
Wednesday's game will be played on the campus of Lynchburg at Shellenberger Field at a time to be determined.
