Greenwood, Ind. – After a pair of stellar performances, Transylvania junior midfielder Thomas Shellenberg has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for men's soccer, the office announced on Tuesday.
In Wednesday's matchup with Thomas More College, Shellenberg (Louisville, Ky. / Trinity) came off the bench to give the Pioneers an early boost, scoring a late first-half goal, leading to a 2-2 tie at the half.
After a hard-fought second half, Shellenberg buried the game-winning goal just 28 seconds into overtime to achieve the 3-2 victory for the Pioneers, their seventh-consecutive win to start the 2017 season.
The brace was Shellenberg's first career multi-goal game.
Shellenberg followed up his dramatic overtime winner with a goal in Saturday's 4-0 victory at Waynesburg. The game also served as the first career start for Shellenberg as a Pioneer.
With the nonconference portion of Transylvania's schedule complete, Shellenberg now ranks second on the Pioneers with four goals on the season.
The player of the week award is the first of Shellenberg's career and the third earned by a Transylvania men's soccer player in the 2017 season.
Shellenberg and the Pioneers will look to remain unbeaten as they face the Rose-Hulman Fighting' Engineers on Saturday, September 30. The match is set for a 3:30 p.m. start at Pat Deacon Stadium.
