Greenwood, Ind. – Transylvania men's soccer sophomore forward Charlie Wend has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for Men's Soccer, the conference announced Monday.
Wend, a sophomore from Hebron, Kentucky (Conner HS), was a key component in keeping the No. 18 Transylvania men's soccer team undefeated for the week as the Pioneers picked up two more victories.
In Saturday's 2-1 win at Defiance that raised Transylvania's record to 3-0 in the HCAC and 10-0 overall, Wend scored both goals in Saturday's win. The sophomore's equalizer in the 6th minute erased an early Defiance lead off a penalty kick, and his eventual game-winner came in the 26th minute to put a cap on Transylvania's 10th win of the year.
Wend's goals were his fourth and fifth of the year, slotting him third in the HCAC in goals.
The player of the week award is the first of Wend's career and the fourth award won by a Pioneer men's soccer player in the 2017 season. He is the third offensive player from Transy to win the award (Thomas Shellenberg – September 25, Riley Calhoon – September 5).
Wend and the Pioneers put their undefeated record on the line against the other HCAC program with an undefeated record, the Hanover College Panthers on Wednesday, October 11 at 3:30 p.m. at the HC Athletic Complex in Hanover, Indiana.
