Lexington, Ky. - The Transylvania swimming team celebrated Senior Day 2018 with a 199-109 combined win over the Anderson University Ravens Saturday afternoon at the William T. Young Center.

Sophomores Mattie Fogle and Sarah Haerle were each part of three victories on the women's side as Transylvania defeated Anderson 126-49. In men's action, freshman Ben Smith headlined three victories as the Pioneers men prevailed over Anderson 73-60.

It was the first combined victory for Transylvania swimming under first-year head coach Dave Doolin on Saturday as the Pioneers celebrated five seniors: Zachary Griffis, Sarah Hernandez, Kiali Jelinek, Elizabeth Lewis, and Melanie Peterson.

The Pioneers started off the day with a resounding victory in the women's 200 medley relay, as freshman Emma Loyd, sophomore Grace Galyon, Jelinek, and Haerle teamed up to finish their run in 2:00.83.

Fogle registered her first individual win of the day in women's 1000 freestyle, completing the race in 11:54.60.

Smith ignited the Transylvania men's bid to win on Saturday by winning the men's 200 freestyle in 1:55.11, more than two seconds ahead of the second-place finisher in the race. Fellow freshman Noah Collins followed with a victory in the men's 50 freestyle (23.83 seconds) and freshman Drew Dodds won the men's 200 IM.

Griffis made his senior day one to remember by winning the men's 100 freestyle (53.66 seconds) while Smith picked up another win in the men's 500 freestyle. Dodds won again later in the afternoon in the men's 200 breaststroke; the quartet of Collins, Griffis, Smith, and Dodds sealed up a men's victory by clinching a win in the 200 freestyle relay.

On the women's side, wins went to Haerle in the women's 200 IM and the women's 200 breaststroke. Jelinek had a senior day to savor as well, winning the women's 100 freestyle and finishing second in the women's 200 IM.

Freshman Emma Lloyd shined on Saturday, winning the women's 50 freestyle in 28.09 seconds, and followed that victory with a first-place finish in the women's 200 backstroke.

Transylvania resumes competition next Friday, January 19 as the Pioneers host Centre College at the William T. Young Center for the Pioneers' final home meet of the season.
