Greenwood, Ind. – It was another week of excellence for Transylvania track and field athletes Cole Green and Jordin Fender, who were selected as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Track Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 16.
Green, a senior from Oak Ridge, Tennessee (Oak Ridge HS), and Fender, a senior from Lexington, Kentucky (Dunbar HS), both competed in last Friday's Centre College Twilight Invitational in Danville, Kentucky where they each won races and posted nationally-notable times in doing so.
Green won the men's 100 meter race at the Twilight Invitational in 10.79 seconds. The time was the best showing of Green's career and a new program record in the event. It also tied the meet record at the Twilight in the men's 100 meters.
Green later placed second in the men's 200 meters with a 21.79 second mark. Both times rank in the top-20 nationally at the Division III level; Green's 100 meter time is the 20th best mark of the season in Division III Outdoor Track and Field, while his Friday race in the 200 meters is the 15th-fastest time.
Fender replicated Green's dramatics with a victory of her own in the women's 100 meter race at the Twilight Invitational, winning the race in 12.32 seconds. That time for Fender is the 36th-fastest time in Division III Track and Field for the 2017 outdoor season. Fender later placed fourth in the women's 100-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 15.29 seconds. Fender posted the fastest time of anyone in the race from the Division III ranks.
The awards are the third Track Athlete of the Week accolades for both Fender and Green during the 2017 outdoor season, and the fourth overall for both including the indoor track and field season.
The next competition for both athletes as well as their Pioneer squad will be the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference track and field championships on the campus of Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana on Friday and Saturday, April 28 and 29.
