Westerville, Ohio – Junior Elizabeth Deaton and freshman Darrell Corn were the Pioneer pacesetters in Saturday afternoon's Otterbein Invitational at the Lehman Cross Country Course.
Competing in the women's 6K race, Deaton for the second straight event led the Pioneers women's cross country peers as she crossed the line in 27:55.2 (a pace of 7:30 per mile). Following Deaton was freshman Josie Cunningham, who completed her run in 29:18.3. Junior Sadie Middleton finished in 30:19, while freshman Ally Priebe rounded out the order with a 32:51.6 finish.
""This meet was all about getting that first effort in at 8K and 6K for the men and women respectively," said head coach Taylor Throckmorton. "We worked them pretty hard this week in training so we knew no one was likely to run crazy fast times which is fine this early in the season. Now that the first years have a sense of how to run those distances, we fully expect to see large time drops over the next few meets."
Corn was the Pioneer leader in the men's 8K race, as he completed in a time of 31:08.8. Fellow freshman Logan Hopper finished in 32:15.8, and freshman Matt Napier completed his race in 34:17.2.
Transylvania competes next at the Greater Louisville Classic at Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday, September 30.
