Greenwood, Ind. – Transylvania softball freshman pitcher Kameron Bowling has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for softball, the conference announced Monday.
Bowling, a freshman from Louisville, Kentucky (Holy Cross HS), led a pitching staff that produced an 8-2 record for the week as part of an extended 10-2 trip to Florida for a week's worth of spring break games.
Over last week's 10-game stretch, Bowling made six appearances in the circle for Transylvania, compiling a 3-1 win-loss record in those appearances. The freshman worked 30 innings over the course of the week, tallying 37 strikeouts against seven walks to post an ERA of 0.47 in her six appearances.
In two games this past week, Bowling set and tied a career-best for single-game strikeouts, registering 12 strikeouts each in a 4-0 win over Bethel on March 12 and again versus Wisconsin-River Falls in a 2-1 defeat on March 16.
Bowling pitched at least four innings in her six appearances; in five of those six games, the Pioneers held their opponents to two runs or less with four of those games resulting in shutouts.
This is the first conference player of the week award of Bowling's career and the second-consecutive week that a Pioneers pitcher has won HCAC Pitcher of the Week honors (Renae Morton – March 13).
Bowling and the Pioneers are back in action next Sunday, March 25 as they welcome Centre College to Hall Field in Lexington for a 5:00 p.m. doubleheader.
