Cincinnati, Ohio – Sophomore forward Shelby Boyle posted her second double-double of the season as the Transylvania women's team posted a defensively optimal 65-43 victory against the Mount St. Joseph University Lions Wednesday evening at the Harrington Center.
Boyle snared a game-high 13 rebounds and scored a game-high 17 rebounds to lead the Pioneers offensively.
With the win, the Pioneers expanded their season-high win streak to seven games as they moved to 10-4 overall and 5-2 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play. Mt. St. Joseph fell to 8-6 overall, 4-3 in HCAC competition.
After a low-scoring first quarter for both teams that saw the Pioneers carry out a 13-9 lead, Transylvania dried up the Lions' offensive flow in the second quarter, outscoring the hosts 17 to 9.
The Pioneers matched their second quarter excellence by outscoring Mt. St. Joseph 23-10 in the third quarter to hold a 53-28 lead after three quarters of play. Boyle scored 10 of her 17 points in the third period.
With the contest in hand, starter Rachel Cox and a bevy of reserves carried the Pioneers to the finish line for the businesslike win.
Sophomore guard Ashton Woodard provided 14 points and seven rebounds, while freshman guard Zenoviah Walker added six points and five rebounds, one block, and one steal off the bench. Cox grabbed 12 rebounds in the win as the Pioneers held a 49-33 rebounding advantage for the evening. Transylvania held Mt. St. Joseph to 28.6 percent shooting from the field for the evening and 21.9 percent from three-point range.
Transylvania returns home Saturday, January 13 for its next contest, facing HCAC rival Manchester University. The Pioneers and Spartans square off at 1:00 p.m. in Lexington, Kentucky at the Clive M. Beck Center in the first game of a Saturday afternoon women's/men's doubleheader.
