Crestview Hills, Ky. – The Transylvania Women's Lacrosse team used a collection of strong offensive performances to earn a 19-5 win over the Thomas More College Saints on Monday night at BB&T Field.
The win pushes Transylvania's record to 12-2 overall and 6-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with just two games remaining in the regular season.
Junior attacker Julia Ward led the Pioneers on offense with five goals, three assists, and three draw controls. It was the third straight game that Ward has scored five or more goals.
Along with Ward, freshman midfielder Brianna McCulley added five goals in the victory. McCulley also collected eight draw controls on the day.
The Pioneers took control of the game early as Ward scored just 30 seconds into the game. Transylvania would add three more goals over the next three minutes of the first half.
The Saints got on the board with a goal at the 25:22 mark. However, the Pioneers responded with a slew of seven goals over the next several minutes. After trading goals with Thomas More to end the half, Transylvania carried a 12-2 lead into the halftime break.
The Pioneers came out of the break ready to get back to their scoring ways, as Smith and Ward combined to score three goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half.
The Pioneers and Saints traded goals over the last 19 minutes of the game, bringing the final tally to 19-5 in favor of Transylvania.
Sophomore goalkeeper Mackenzie Dent collected six saves while only giving up five goals in 60 minutes of action. Dent now boasts the second-best goals-against average in the ORLC with a mark of 8.62 allowed per contest.
Next, the Pioneers return home to face the Franklin College Grizzlies on Friday, April 28. The game is set for a 7:00 p.m. start at Pat Deacon Stadium.
