Springfield, Ohio – The Transylvania women's soccer team battled the Wittenberg University Tigers to a 0-0 draw Wednesday night at Edwards-Maurer Field in the Pioneers final tune-up prior to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
Transylvania's record now goes to 2-5-3 after earning the draw with Wittenberg.
Early in the game, both sides grappled for possession and finishing opportunities. The Pioneers saw their first opportunity with ten minutes left in the half when junior midfielder Noel Obata put a strike towards goal that was stopped by the Tigers goalkeeper.
In the second half both teams looked to take control of the game, but neither defense yielded the opportunity and the game went to overtime still tied at 0-0.
With just seconds to go in the first overtime, Wittenberg made its push towards the goal, but the Tigers final shot was saved by Transylvania junior goalkeeper Haley Blackburn to keep the game alive.
Both teams failed to manufacture a goal in the second overtime, and the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
Blackburn added the draw to her record after coming in at halftime in relief for junior goalkeeper Ally Barfield. The two Pioneers combined to collect three saves in the match.
Next up, the Pioneers will open conference play by hosting the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Fightin' Engineers on Saturday, September 30. First touch is set for 1:00 p.m. at Pat Deacon Stadium as part of a women's/men's doubleheader afternoon against the Engineers.
