Greenwood, Ind. – Transylvania sophomore women's swimmer Sarah Haerle has been selected as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Haerle, a sophomore from Newburgh, Indiana (Castle HS) captured three wins in a thrilling dual meet victory for the Transylvania women's swim team against Union (Ky.) College last Friday. Haerle won three events and placed second in another to lead the Pioneers to a 110-109 victory for the women's side over Union.
With the HCAC in its first season sponsoring conference swimming championships, Haerle earns the distinction of becoming the first swimmer to ever win an HCAC women's swimmer of the week award.
It was a well-earned award for Haerle, who took first in the women's 100 breaststroke (1:10.45), first in the women's 200 breaststroke (2:32.57), and was part of a women's 200 individual medley relay team that took first place in 1:59.97.
Haerle also produced a second-place finish in the women's 200 freestyle relay (2:16.79) to push the Pioneers over the top to victory.
Haerle and the Pioneers are back in action in the premier event of the season for Transylvania swimming, the two-day Transylvania Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, December 2 and 3. The event will be held at the University of Kentucky's Lancaster Aquatic Center for the sixth-straight year.
