Norfolk, Va. – The Transylvania women's swimming team set the academic standard for Division III schools in the 2017-2018 season as the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced its Scholar All-America teams for the spring 2018 semester on Tuesday.
The Pioneers women's swimming team was one of 174 teams at the Division III level who were named Scholar All-America teams for the spring 2018 semester.
Of those 174 teams, the Pioneers posted the highest grade-point average with a GPA of 3.79.
The CSCAA recognizes teams with the Scholar All-America Award for achieving a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.
The Pioneers women's swimming team completed a full year of excellence in the classroom, following up on their Fall Scholar All-American Team selection this past January. In the fall semester, the Pioneers posted a top-10 GPA among its Division III peers.
Transylvania completed its first run through the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule this season, convening with five other schools for the inaugural HCAC swimming and diving championships in February in Terre Haute, Indiana under first-year head coach Dave Doolin. The Pioneers took third in the field as a team and produced individual conference champion, sophomore Sarah Haerle, who placed first in the women's 200 breaststroke and the women's 100 breaststroke championship events.
