Greenwood, Ind. – The Transylvania women's team has been forecasted for a fifth-place finish among its peers according to a Tuesday release of the annual Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference preseason coaches poll.
Coming off a sixth-place finish in 2016 conference play and a bid to the conference tournament, a veteran-laden Transylvania team with renewed depth has been chosen to finish fifth place out of eight teams considered in the survey.
Transylvania received 50 voting points to pull up behind Rose-Hulman, which finished first with 77 points, then Hanover with 75 points, Franklin with 63 points, and Manchester with 53 points.
The Pioneers are guided by second-year head coach Kevin Calhoun and return eight veterans to the squad in 2017-18. Transylvania also welcomes four newcomers into the fold to form a deep roster.
Transylvania commences its season Saturday, September 2 in Greencastle, Indiana for the Depauw University Tennis Tournament. Conference play begins for Transylvania Wednesday, September 20, when the Pioneers host Mount St. Joseph in Lexington.
