Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania women's tennis team made Senior Day 2017 one for the books on Thursday evening at Spindletop Court, defeating the Earlham College Quakers, 8-1 for its third win of the conference season.
The Pioneers began their trip to Spindletop on Wednesday the same way they finished it: with three important figures to celebrate. Transylvania swept its opposition in doubles play to open up the match against Earlham. In No. 1 doubles, two seniors led the charge as Lilian Williams and Mary Grace Amato collected an 8-2 win against Arrita Domi and Kaitlin Morgan.
Junior Kearstin Bruther and sophomore Lucy Herrington continued their steamroll through conference doubles play with an 8-5 victory against Yunjoo Shin and Alexandra Canaday in No. 2 doubles. Sophomore Merrick Irwin and Anna Burch cruised to an 8-2 win against Lexi Aligarbes and Kathryn Hulleman.
Transylvania continued its roll against Earlham in singles play, picking up five of six victories in singles play. Amato picked up a dominant 6-2, 6-0 win against Domi in No. 1 singles, while Bruther only yielded two games to Aligarbes in No. 5 singles and Williams doing the same in the No. 3 singles match.
Following Thursday's meet, the Pioneers paid homage to their three outgoing seniors, Amato, Williams, and Myriah Porter.
The Pioneers now stand at 3-3 with one game remaining in their regular season. Transylvania wraps up conference play at Manchester University on Saturday, October 14 at 10:00 a.m. in North Manchester, Indiana.
