Transylvania tennis teams earn ITA All-Academic scholar-athlete honors

Tempe, Ariz. – Nine members of the Transylvania tennis program were named 2017-18 Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic scholar-athletes, the ITA announced Tuesday.

The Pioneers saw six student-athletes from the women's squad, including seniors Mary Grace Amato, Myriah Porter, Lilian Williams, junior Madison Miles and Kearstin Bruther, and freshman Madison Campbell earn scholar-athlete status. 

Three Transylvania men's tennis players earned ITA All-Academic Honors in seniors J.T. Henderson, Luke Groene, and junior Daniel Cooper.

According to the ITA, All-Academic Honors are awarded to student-athletes who have earned a varsity letter, have a grade-point average of at least 3.50, and have been enrolled at their current institution for at least two semesters.

The Transylvania women's tennis team was also named an ITA All-Academic Team for its cumulative academic success; in order to earn All-Academic Team Honors, an ITA school must possess a cumulative team GPA of 3.20 or above.

The Transylvania tennis squads add Tuesday's academic recognition to a successful 2018 season which witnessed both teams advance to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament under second-year head coach Kevin Calhoun.
