Pioneers women's tennis start strong before fading against Ohio Wesleyan

Delaware, Ohio. - The Transylvania women's tennis team got off to a hot start before dropping a 6-3 result to the Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops at the Luttinger Family Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Pioneers jumped out to an early 2-1 lead via an 8-3 win by freshmen Jessica Burton and Porsche Robinson in No. 1 doubles play, and an 8-4 win by sophomores Madison Campbell and Reagan Jobe at No. 3 doubles.

However, the Battling Bishops responded by reeling off five straight wins in singles action to take a commanding 6-2 lead in the match.

Transylvania wrapped up the day with a strong showing by Jobe, who claimed a hard-fought 4-6, 6-4, 13-11 victory in No. 6 singles play.

The victory was not enough for the Pioneers to overcome the Battling Bishops, who claimed a 6-3 overall match victory.

The Pioneers will now face a quick turnaround as they travel to Westerville, Ohio for a matchup with the Otterbein University Cardinals tomorrow morning.  The match is set for an 11:00 a.m. start at the Otterbein Tennis Courts.
